[[SECTION:■An Authentic Hanging Scroll Crafted by Master Artisans]]
Over 1,000 years of hanging scroll history.
The artisan carrying on that craftsmanship is third-generation scroll maker at KAKEJIKUYA, Taishin Sagawa.
Completed through traditional hanging scroll production processes such as mounting, fabric selection, and backing, this work
is not merely an art print, but a genuine hanging scroll individually crafted by a master artisan with the dignity of traditional Japanese craftsmanship.
Edo-period artistic style and a modern fighting manga.
Born from the intersection of two eras and cultures, this is a special hanging scroll work that can truly be called a “modern ukiyo-e.”

This visual was created with inspiration from “Kyūshū Ganryūjima Miyamoto Musashi Sasaki Ganryū Shiai no Zu,” a work by Edo-period ukiyo-e artist Utagawa Yoshitora.

In the original manga “Baki-Dou,” the revived swordsman Miyamoto Musashi clashes with underground arena champion Hanma Baki. In this work, that composition is reimagined as ukiyo-e, creating a visual that fuses traditional Japanese art with the world of modern fighting manga.

The motif for this work is the warrior print “Kyūshū Ganryūjima Miyamoto Musashi Sasaki Ganryū Shiai no Zu,” painted by late Edo-period ukiyo-e artist Utagawa Yoshitora.
This work is known as an ukiyo-e depiction of the “Battle of Ganryujima,” the duel said to have taken place between the legendary swordsmen Miyamoto Musashi and Sasaki Kojiro.

Centered on a seaside duel, the image features dynamic figures and watching spectators, creating a tense and dramatic composition. It is believed to have been produced in the Kōka era (around the 1840s) and published as a triptych nishiki-e print.
This ukiyo-e depiction of a historic duel is known as an iconic visual that influenced later creative works and films. The “Baki-Dou” ukiyo-e visual likewise uses that composition as its foundation, reimagining it as a new “Battle of Ganryujima” between Hanma Baki and Miyamoto Musashi.

By fusing the composition of traditional ukiyo-e with the dynamism of modern manga, it expresses a story of battle that transcends time.
